AT the age of nine Dyke House College coach Martin Young chose Thomas to go and train with the Hartlepool United development squad. This helped Thomas improve his game.

When Thomas reached the age of 11 he joined Greatham Under-11s. He secured his place at right-back just a couple of weeks after joining the club.

Thomas played 90 per cent of league and cup games and later that season Thomas won the supporters’ player of the year.

At school Thomas was classed as an all-rounder participating in sports like cross country, netball, basketball, football and cricket.

He was chosen to be captain for two years in a row for the Year 5/6 football team at Fens Primary. 

At the end of his final year at Fens he was named the pupil with the best sporting attitude in the school’s sports awards. He signed for Darlington in 2017.
