SUCCESS: Last year's swimmers from Dyke House did well at the qualifiers

GOLFERS and swimmers from Dyke House College are set for a busy end to the week – for different reasons.

Four swimmers from the Hartlepool secondary school will be aiming for national recognition for the second year in a row when they compete in a qualifier for the 60th ESSA Secondary Schools' Team Championships on Thursday.

Year 10 duo Reece Robinson and Callum Bomersbach along with Year 9 pair Matthew Burke and Nathan Dixon will be teaming up to represent Dyke House at Durham’s Freemans Quay.

The quartet will form relay teams as they look to impress from a tough field by qualifying for the Nationals on November 18 at the Olympic pool in London.

Once the swimmers have finished, the golfers will take centre stage on Friday.

Dyke House is taking its talented group of golfers up to Scotland to watch the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship take place at St Andrews, just like they did last year (pictured above).

Graeme Storm, the college’s golf consultant who finished fourth at the British Masters on Sunday, will be in action again and will be someone for the young scholars to watch.

“The next few days are a further indication of what sort of activities and events our scholars on the scheme can enjoy,” said the director of the Elite Development Squad, Danny Evans.

“We want our scholars to aspire to be as good as they can possibly be in their sport and the experience of being involved on such trips and competitions can only help their development.”
