EMILY PAROTT was left smiling and satisfied last weekend when she claimed a first podium finish.

The Dyke House athlete, representing Gateshead Harriers, secured second spot in the Under-15s Girls’ Long Jump with an indoor season best of 4.24m at the NECAA Indoor Track and Field Championships.

Emily also competed in the Under-15s Girls’ 60m at the same championship.

After finishing third in her heat against a strong field of runners with a time of 8.67sec, she got through to the semi-finals where she ran a slightly slower time of 8.71s against another strong field.

These results would not have been possible without the help of the physio team at Gateshead College who have helped with shin splint problems.

Emily now hopes these results will give her a boost at her next indoor events in March and the start of the outdoor season.
