WINNER: Megan Costello (centre) after winning the 60m
MAGIC Megan Costello has been crowned Scottish Nationals champion.
The consistently performing Dyke House athlete - who is on the college's Elite Development Squad - took her performance to a new level when she travelled north of the border to Glasgow last weekend.
Megan turned on the style to win the Under-17s 60m at the Scottish National Indoor Athletics Championships in a personal best time of 7.91 to enhance her rising reputation.
She comfortably won her heat, easing up over the line in 8.08 seconds.
Just 75 minutes later the Gateshead Harriers runner cruised through her semi-final in 8.04 seconds
And, despite some concern and nerves that the final was only 50 minutes later, the 15-year-old saved the best for last as planned.
Megan was outstanding and won by a clear margin with a PB of 7.91 seconds, ahead of Gateshead teammate Charlotte Richardson who claimed silver.
On the same day Megan qualified through the heats in the 200m by setting a new PB. However, she opted against running in the semi-final as the short gaps between each race didn’t really allow sufficient recovery.
Megan’s next event is Match 4 of the Gateshead College Indoor Series on the February 8 and then the North-East Counties Indoor Championships on February 18.
