MEGAN COSTELLO’S rise on the national stage has continued over an exciting and hectic summer for the Dyke House College athlete.

Megan claimed a podium finish at the North of England Under-15s Championships among her appearances during the summer holidays and is gearing up for a successful 2018.

In the North of England meet, at Leigh Sports Village, near Warrington, she was entered into the 100m and 200m but could only compete in the former because of a poorly thought out timetable.

Throughout the heats and semi-finals Megan ran quicker and quicker setting new personal bests in each 100m race.

And in the final she ran against her former Cleveland teammate Afoma Ofor. Afoma proved too strong in the final but Megan has closed the gap to the Middlesbrough athlete.

It still turned out to be a 1-2-3 for the North-East athletes, who staved off strong competition from Manchester, Sheffield and Liverpool.

After that Megan travelled north to the Tartan Games at Gateshead International Stadium, where she could compete in both sprint events.

The Tartan Games, which sees a strong contingent of athletes travel down from Scotland, basically saw a repeat in the 100m of the previous week’s competition in Leigh.

Afoma narrowly edged ahead of Megan, who recorded another PB, and third place went to Megan’s new training partner Philippa Ellis.

It was also business as usual in the 200m where Afoma and Megan finished one-two.
