NEW personal best times were recorded by three Dyke House College swimmers when they dived into contention for honours during the Middlesbrough Summer Gala.

Caitlyn Collins, Matthew Burke and Chris Mayes – all part of the Elite Development Squad at college - were in decent form at the gala when they were indoors for one of the hottest weekends of the year.

Caitlyn achieved seven top ten rankings, hit three personal bests and went home with a bronze medal for the 100m individual medley.

What was particularly pleasing was that it was her first time at this gala, with more than 100 swimmers in most events and some very fast competitors.

Matthew had seven swims and got new best times in all of them.

He hasn't competed in the 100m breaststroke for a year and took 13 seconds off that. He also received a bronze medal for his 50m free.

Chris competed in two events because he was not able to enter the 50m breaststroke as he was too fast for that competition.

He competed in the 50m freestyle after entering with a time of 27.7sec and touched in at 27.46 - a new PB to achieve sixth place in the 15 year and over category.

In the 100m breaststroke event he entered with a time of 1.11.9 and touched in at 1.11.32 - another PB to claim second place in the 15 year and over category.
